So you wanna be a Rollergirl?

So as you may already know, I skate on a roller derby team in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I haven't ever gone into great detail about it. Mainly because no one has ever asked me to and secondly because my actions may incriminate me.
I think this article in "Smart News" articulated it correctly when they stated that "...the allure of roller derby is the rock-star attitude of its players....rollergirls look the part...wild makeup, fishnets and tattos. Off the rink most of us are pretty down to earth"...fairly....closely....as long as they don't give us all a mental evaluation.

I mean seriously...who rolls around a track knockin' and hitting other chicks down...and by chicks i completely mean bitches...and by bitches i mean the other team....because they are by no means your friends when they put their skates on...off the track we are all sweet as pie to each other...thats an overstatement...but I have made some really good friends...if you put your ego aside and try to learn from each other...team mate or opponents...

I was watching a movie trailer for the movie "Roller Con". Its a roller derby convention that hundreds of women attend every year to learn more about the sport. One girl states that she loves roller derby because everywhere she goes she is surrounded by the biggest girl gang...and its true...

At least our League is tight...we truly want to see each other succeed and want the best for our team...its the completion of our first year...and lots of girls have come and gone...i know a few of you have enjoyed checking out the pics on the websites...myspace and whatnot...there are lots of good times...please continue to do so and leave comments!....we spend a lot of our time for this league....all volunteered...no one gets paid...although it would definately be a boost to our egos if we did!!...

All these girls put their hearts into this sport...we purchase our own gear, volunteer our time to make appearances, fundraisers, and travel across the country for the sheer joy of performing and the sport of it all...for the hugs and bruises!! enjoy!!
