Stop and Smell the Summer...I think it was the 4th of July
So as i sit and write this...its been stormy most of the afternoon...muggy and thundering...mixed with sprinkles....but the last few days and nights can only be described as typical summer weather...warm...insect filled...the volley of children's manic laughter echoing through the neighborhood...and i realized that i have yet to really enjoy it...but even so...now there is no excuse...and what better excuse to get your butts out of the house than the 4th of july...
i spent mine mostly outside...my friend and i got our kids together...i lovingly poured baby oil all over our slip and slide and let them kids have at it...aaahhhh....i can still hear their squeals of delight...as they overran the slide and rolled down the bottom of the hill into the woodline...what joy...they ran and chased each other with water balloons....and then we had bbq...nummy...and cookies and watermelon and such...and we brought out the fireworks....what 4th of july day would be complete without it?...did you ever stack up all the snakes on top of each other to see what would happen?...not much happens...but it does similate a really cool looking 5 headed snake depending on how many you use...fun enough to impress kids...we were having a gay ol time...till the po-po showed up...im sure one of the neighbors rained on our parade... thats ok i was holding the 2 foot sparklers and made like thats all that was left...and so...they left...and we proceeded to the backyard and began to set the rest of our loot off...what joy!...
after all that we drove close to iron mike...he's this big memorial statue of a______??...guess??..a soldier...theres this circular drive around him...but we didnt actually go there we just wanted to get as close to there as possible because thats where the fireworks were going to be set off...at the soccer field...so we parked by the old dmv...and waited...well i guess i should have checked to see what time it actually started...waiting with 6 kids and no bathroom could really cramp your style...if you know what i mean...after about 45 mins of endless complaining, wiggling from children (did i mention they were sitting on top of my rodeo?); a small boy, a coke can, and possible indecent exposure,...the fireworks literally started with a bang...this is the closest i have ever gotten to fireworks in my life...they exploded above our heads....over and over and over again...i began to understand why they use the fireworks analogy with sex...i kept finding myself...ooooohing and aaaahhhhing...at the ginormous size of those colorful mushroom....clouds...for lack of a better description...im seriously not trying to be tacky here...but seriously...they were huge....one after another....just falling all over us...you could see the glitter tails just tittering to land...all i could say was wow....wow...over and over again....i was euphoric...
we all agreed it was the best ever...with the exception of one thing...drew wasnt there...but next year...i'll have to take him so he can see for himself...it was just so awesome...and yeah it took us forever to get home in what should have just been about a 5 min drive...but it was so worth it...and i made all the naggy children apologize for their incessant whining...and they did....happily...
Early Morning Ramblings...
Im so excited...today is the first day of my semi-anonymous blogging experience...and i feel free as a bird...or what not...the house is very quiet...and i'm listening to old school Bon Jovi...he's bellowing out "Dead or Alive"...the tv is quietly muttering Lifetime channel nonsense...and now that i have updated my myspace and begun this blog...i feel satisfied...until tomorrow!
